Under our Biodiverse Urbanism Program, this youth study tour is led by Ryna Vet, a trained young leader of the Future Climate Heroes 2026 Project. The tour explores urban heritage regeneration at Phnom Penh’s historical Post Office Square (Place de la Poste). Aligning with UN-Habitat’s Urban October 2026 theme, "Regenerating the City," ten young Cambodian architecture students will conduct field photo-mapping to identify pressing urban challenges, including climate vulnerability, thermal discomfort, pedestrian disconnection, and spatial neglect around historical facades, alongside the necessity of tree canopy and shading for biodiverse urbanism. Participants will then formulate creative, human-centered design solutions through their preferred medium, whether writing structured micro-proposals, creating digital or AI-assisted visualizations, or drafting spatial diagrams. By proposing adaptive reuse, biophilic shading, and public realm enhancements, this initiative empowers young architectural minds to reimagine heritage preservation and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) as active drivers of climate resilience and community vitality in Phnom Penh. Their final work will be showcased at the Global Urban Horizons Hub during the Youth Urban Dialogue for World Cities Day 2026.
