Aligned with World Cities Day 2025, this event aims to explore how smart city approaches can create more inclusive, safe, and empowering spaces for women and children - who are often marginalized in urban planning and housing design in developing contexts. In the upcoming affordable housing community in Khanewal, PAHP seeks to co-design housing solutions with local residents rather than for them. Through this event, we will engage directly with community stakeholders —women-led households, youth, children and local representatives — to identify their priorities, safety concerns, and aspirations for smart and livable neighborhoods. Activities • Participatory Visioning Workshops: Residents will collectively envision their future community using interactive visual boards and digital design prompts. • Focus Group Discussions (FGDs): Separate sessions for women and children to ensure inclusive representation in planning. • Gamified Feedback Sessions: Tools like Kahoot! or other interactive polling apps will be used to collect real-time opinions and preferences. • Digital Mapping Exercises: Participants will mark desired locations for parks, lighting, childcare centers, and community facilities using touchscreen or AR-based tools. • Co-creation exercises: Visual and written documentation of participants’ inputs to inform the design of Khanewal’s affordable housing site. Expected Outcomes • A community-driven framework for inclusive housing design tailored to the needs of vulnerable groups. • A replicable participatory toolkit for future PAHP sites across Punjab. • A contribution to the World Cities Day 2025 discourse on crisis-responsive urban development — where local participation is the first step toward resilience.
