The event "UVA Initiatives for Climate Action and the Urban Environment” will be held in a virtual format, with live streaming, bringing together professors, researchers, and students from Universidade Veiga de Almeida (UVA) to present projects that integrate science, outreach, and community action in favor of urban sustainability. The goal is to showcase initiatives focused on climate action and the urban environment, connected to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, 10, and 13, highlighting the importance of reducing inequalities, promoting inclusive cities, and expanding climate awareness.
The program will feature two roundtables. The first, dedicated to research initiatives, will address studies that link climate, urbanization, and socio-environmental justice, with an emphasis on participatory planning and sustainable solutions for urban areas. The second, focused on outreach activities, will present experiences of community engagement and environmental education projects that combine technological innovation, critical pedagogical practices, and collaborative methodologies for more resilient cities.
Organized by the Center for Technological and Pedagogical Innovation (NITeP), the Professional Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences at UVA, and the project “Que Chuva é Essa?” [“What Rain is This?”], the initiative reinforces the university’s role in producing applied and inclusive knowledge, contributing to public policies, educational practices, and innovative solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
