Urban Rivers – Connecting People, Cities and Rivers

Rivers are crucial for the survival and prosperity of cities and cultures. Recent climate change-related floods and droughts in many places worldwide highlighted this again. We are glad to invite you to an Urban Thinkers Campus on Urban Rivers that will take place on October 03 as a part of World Habitat Day 2022. The workshop will take place from 16h and 18h at the Oslo Polytechnic Society in Oslo and also online. The event is organized by Habitat Norge and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in collaboration with NTNU. We will have contributions from UN-Habitat´s ED Maimounah M. Sharif; the Mayor of Oslo Marianne Borgen, the Ministry of Local Government, a keynote lecture by Professor Terje Tvedt, University of Bergen, as well as several case study presentations from Oslo (Norway), Solo (Indonesia), Nairobi (Kenya), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil). Our main objectives are: A) To discuss the opportunities for river restoration in times of climate crisis, B) To showcase case studies on river regeneration in a global context. Not least, the meeting is part of the initiative called Promoting a New Community of Knowledge and Practice in people-centered and Resilient Spaces related to Urban Rivers (PEARLS).
