The Urban October is a month-long initiative originally launched by the United Nations to put sustainable urbanisation in the spotlight. Each year, GIZ uses this opportunity to showcase the work of GIZ and its partners around the world and to highlight the crucial role of cities and urban areas in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For one month, colleagues at GIZ are organizing events on topics related to sustainable urban development to bring the issue to the forefront and highlight the importance of cities in international cooperation. Key areas of focus include, for example, adequate housing, municipal financing, informality, sustainable construction, and integrated urban planning. It is particularly gratifying this year that Anaclaudia Rossbach, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, will be attending the opening of Urban October at GIZ.
