Urban October 2025 aligns with the international observance of World Habitat Day and World Cities Day, both of which promote global reflection on sustainable urban development. This year’s edition holds special significance as it marks the 10th anniversary of the Center for Urban Sustainability (CPSU), a Costa Rican organization that has spent the past decade working toward more equitable, humane, and sustainable cities. Since its founding, CPSU has led initiatives in training, research, policy advocacy, and cross-sector collaboration, promoting a vision of sustainability that goes beyond the environmental dimension to include social, cultural, economic, and political aspects. Urban October 2025 will be an opportunity to celebrate these milestones, share collective learning, and renew the commitment to transformative urban action. The main event will take place on Saturday, October 25, at La Sabana Metropolitan Park, San Jose city and Galería Cero Uno, featuring a full-day program that combines hands-on learning, community dialogue, and cultural celebration. The morning will begin with practical workshops, including a technical session on walkability and public space assessment tools, and a biophilic walk, designed to reconnect people with urban nature. In the evening, the program will feature a Poster Session on innovation and research in urban sustainability, showcasing up to 15 researchers and professionals—including CPSU affiliates and new voices—who will present their findings in an accessible and interactive format. The session will open with two-minute introductions by each presenter, followed by an open knowledge fair where attendees can engage directly with the presenters and explore projects related to mobility, inclusive urbanism, climate adaptation, public space, and technology for sustainable cities. Additionally, the event will include a guided timeline exhibition highlighting key milestones and projects from CPSU’s ten-year journey, hosted at Galería Cero Uno. The day will conclude with a relaxed and festive closing event featuring live music, informal conversations over drinks and snacks, interactive games, and urban trivia. This space is designed to strengthen community bonds and celebrate the shared vision of a more inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered urban future.
