Urban Challenges in Belém During COP-30 in the Era of Climate Emergency

The event “Urban Challenges in Belém during COP-30 in the Era of the Climate Emergency” proposes a critical reflection on the impacts of recent urban transformations in Belém/PA, the host city of COP-30. The activity will address challenges in areas such as urban planning, housing, urban mobility, and the implementation of municipal public policies—placing special emphasis on the contradictions between investments in large infrastructure projects and the principles of climate justice and social inclusion. From the perspective of researchers from the Financia Cidades Research Group (CNPq) and invited professors, the event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 11, 10, and 13) and the thematic focus “Reducing Urban Inequalities” of Urban Circuit 2025, providing a space for debate on the direction of urbanization in Belém and other cities in the Global South. The event will be held online and live, featuring an expository and dialogic format in a conversational panel, with opportunities for audience questions at the end.
