This session, presented as a conversation between Caroline Cruz and psychologist Bruna Salgado de Macedo, invites reflection on the challenges of caregiving in early childhood within peripheral urban territories, using toilet training as a starting point to reveal structural inequalities and the absence of public policies sensitive to this key stage of child development. The discussion will address topics such as emotional development, symbolic violence in caregiving, and the importance of educating parents and caregivers in the creation of truly just and inclusive cities. The proposal advocates for care as a central pillar of public policy and for access to quality information as a fundamental right for families and professionals working with early childhood.
