Sesc+ Sustainability – Planting Seeds with the Little Ones is an event that focuses on stimulating critical and interpretative thinking about sustainability through outdoor activities in direct contact with nature, held at the Sesc Barra Mansa Unit, located in the city of Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro. The program is aimed primarily at children, but the participation of their guardians is also encouraged. All activities are 100% free of charge.
The program runs for 1 hour per session, in two sessions with different audiences, every Saturday throughout the month. It encourages interpersonal relationships and an interpretative outlook on the surrounding environment. Topics such as ecosystems, biodiversity, natural cycles, and environmental issues are addressed through hands-on planting sessions, discussion circles about wildlife, seed bombs, tasting of medicinal herbs, waste vs. residue dynamics, and activities that promote a culture of peace, ALWAYS using natural elements.
The event is connected to the theme REDUCING URBAN INEQUALITIES, as it offers a systematic, annual, inclusive, equitable, and free program. Moreover, in the context of climate change, it provides vulnerable communities with opportunities for a more critical, interpretative, and proactive understanding of pressing environmental issues such as waste management, water preservation and contamination, healthy eating, and conservation.
