SDG Thursday: Sustainable Cities and Communities - SDG 11

The world is increasingly urbanized. Since 2007, more than half of the world's population has been living in cities, and that number is expected to increase to 60% by 2030. Cities and metropolitan areas are powerhouses of economic growth, contributing about 60% of world GDP. However, they also account for around 70% of global carbon emissions and more than 60% of resource use. Rapid urbanization is resulting in increasing numbers of people living in slums, inadequate and overloaded infrastructure and services (such as waste collection and water and sanitation systems, roads and transportation), which is worsening air pollution and uncontrolled urban growth. The cities of Latin America and Peru are not alien to this reality. Therefore, this conference addresses case studies regarding the progress of the implementation of SDG11 in the city of Lima. We address the objective of the project, its beneficiaries and its development.
