Sanitation in Urban Amazon: Innovation and Universal Access

The event Conexões GPCAS 2025 – Sanitation in Urban Amazonia: Innovation, Universal Access, and Environmental Justice focuses on addressing urban challenges in Amazonian cities through an integrated approach. The panel will cover key topics such as universal access to sanitation, promotion of accessible mobility, the use of nature-based solutions in urban planning, and territorial inclusion through integrated housing policies. The panel will feature a representative from academia, a municipal public authority, and a member of civil society or the local community. The moderation will be conducted by members of the Federal University of Rondônia (UNIR), which coordinates the Research Group on Amazonian Cities: Sustainability and Technological Innovation, the proposing entity of the event. The proposal is closely aligned with the theme of Urban Circuit 2025 – “Facing Urban Challenges: Pathways to Just and Sustainable Cities” and falls under Thematic Line 1: Climate Action and Urban Environment. The event aims to discuss the role of environmental infrastructure, territorial management, and social inclusion in promoting urban resilience in Amazonian contexts marked by social and climate vulnerabilities. The goal is to contribute to building more equitable, safe, and environmentally sustainable cities in the Amazon, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 11, 10, and 13.
