The event presents three best practices, one already completed and two currently underway in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, following the disaster that occurred in April–May 2024. Evaluated by companies, national organizations, and funding agencies, these initiatives support innovative, evidence-based strategies developed by specialists. They emphasize community strengthening, the role of nature-based services, learning and benchmarking with similar international events, and the effectiveness of fundamental rights and guarantees. Recovering from a disaster such as the one experienced in Rio Grande do Sul is a major challenge but the Resilient Community event seeks to reinforce the idea that recovery must begin within the affected territory itself, grounded in legislation, coordination, and participation of multiple actors, and guided by science and shared learning.
