The center of São Paulo, the largest city in Latin America, has historically been marked by social, economic, and urban contrasts that reveal deep inequalities in access to housing, public services, urban infrastructure, and development opportunities. With this context in mind, the event “Reducing Urban Inequalities in Downtown São Paulo” proposes a space for dialogue among different municipal departments to discuss public policies and initiatives that address these disparities in an integrated, fair, and sustainable way. The proposal seeks to highlight concrete experiences, ongoing programs, and possible pathways to reverse exclusion processes and promote social inclusion in the city’s central territory. Topics to be debated include: urban revitalization, inclusive housing policies, tackling social vulnerability, climate change adaptation, and cross-cutting actions guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By bringing together strategic public sector actors and promoting an intersectoral approach, the event aims to contribute to building more effective and integrated solutions to transform downtown São Paulo into a more accessible, equitable, and resilient space.
