The Spatial Analysis and Mapping Studio (Prof. Dr. Romina D’Ascanio and Prof. Dr. Abdallah Jreij) at the School of Design and Architecture, ADA University, organises two urban study visits in Baku on 5 and 7 October 2026 to mark World Habitat Day 2026. The activity engages first-year students in the Bachelor’s programme in Urban Planning in exploring the relationships between housing, urban transformation and climate resilience. Anna Soave, Head of the UN-Habitat Country Office in Azerbaijan, joins as a special guest, connecting students’ observations with international debates on housing and sustainable urbanisation. The morning route takes students through White City, their project site and surrounding areas, ending at Victory Park. In the afternoon, the visit continues through Icherisheher towards Central Park, offering opportunities to compare historic urban fabric with contemporary redevelopment. Through direct observation, students examine how buildings, infrastructure, public spaces and environmental conditions shape neighbourhoods and everyday life. By turning Baku into an open-air classroom, the visits introduce fieldwork as a fundamental method for understanding urban complexity and the responsibilities of future architects, planners and urban designers in shaping more resilient cities.
