This panel aims to discuss the racial dimension of urban segregation in Brazil. Historically, this topic has been somewhat overlooked in academic literature within the field of urban studies and has had limited visibility in the national public discourse. to shed light on this issue and the urban segregation processes that disproportionately affect the Black population in the country. It also aims to identify opportunities for the development of urban policies more focused on the racial aspect within an urban context, thus contributing to the discourse on more democratic, inclusive, and equal cities. Given the increasing global emphasis on anti-racism, we believe it is even more crucial to incorporate this discussion into the 2023 Urban Circuit's programme and integrate it into the agenda of cooperation and initiatives among countries and communities in what is often referred to as the Global South.
