Practices of the Collaborative Observatory of Rio de Janeiro State's Agenda / OCA

The theme of the event is citizen-led data generation for monitoring urban and environmental policy instruments in municipalities of the State of Rio de Janeiro, carried out by the Collaborative Observatory of the Fluminense Urban Agenda (OCA), coordinated by the Institute of Architects of Brazil / RJ. OCA seeks to empower local collectives and movements to reflect on territorial inequality and climate justice. It is aligned with the objectives of the Urban Circuit 2025: “Facing Urban Challenges and Seeking Pathways to Just and Sustainable Cities.” Participants, representing the observatory’s partner institutions, will discuss the development of the research methodology and, in particular, how the production of information is followed by efforts to influence public policies in the municipalities under study, mainly through partnerships with organized civil society. The Observatory’s information is produced by a team of volunteer researchers with diverse professional backgrounds, who collect data in municipalities across Rio de Janeiro state, later georeferenced and made publicly available through a website. With this event, IAB RJ aims to make this collaborative process public and move forward with empowerment of local collectives and organizations to promote influence on municipal public policies.
