Over the past three years Heritopolis – Heritage and the Metropolis has developed as a continuing research with over 20 participating UN-Habitat UNI Consortium universities. The research on Heritopolis has been carried out with a series of international conferences and webinars to discuss the integrative role of cultural and natural heritage in the planning, design and management of the 21st century metropolis. The 2023-2024 workshop series will bring together visionary leaders and UN partners including business leaders, academic institutions, researchers and social organizations, advancing new findings towards the 2024 WUF12 in Cairo. In addition, the results of these studies will provide important support for the monitoring and reporting of the 2011 UNESCO Historic Urban Landscape Recommendation, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. Each workshop will culminate in a policy proposal. The Heritopolis Shanghai event coincides with World Metropolitan Day, and the theme of "The Power of Nature in our Metropolises". In this workshop, we will actively discuss and share the good practices of Shanghai and several other Chinese cities in the management of the metropolis, linking the natural and cultural heritage, tangible and intangible, and disseminate the experiences and wisdom of China.
