The University of Auckland and Keio Economic Observatory (KEO) co-organise the Postgraduate Research Colloquium 2026: Urban Transformation – Planning, Policy and Development is a hybrid (online and in-person) academic research exchange event bringing together postgraduate researchers, academics, and urban practitioners to examine contemporary processes of urban transformation in New Zealand and Japan. The Colloquium is held on 23 September 2026 at the University of Auckland Business School, with presentations on urban morphology, land-use regulation, accessibility, redevelopments, and upzoning, etc. The programme features opening perspectives from New Zealand and Japan, followed by postgraduate research presentations, and a moderated roundtable discussion session. The event provides Master’s and PhD researchers with an opportunity to present emerging empirical research, engage with comparative urban experiences, and develop connections with researchers across institutions and countries. It is held in the lead-up to World Habitat Day 2026, the colloquium contributes an academic research perspective to the global discussion on Adequate Housing for All, with particular attention to the relationship between urban transformation and housing affordability.
