The event, titled “Permanecer [Stay]: Jurunas Neighborhood Gentrification Observatory,” aims to create a space for listening and dialogue, welcoming local residents and collecting data generated from these conversations. From this engagement, the goal is to collaboratively develop proposals to address the impacts of real estate valorization on historically working-class urban communities. Focusing specifically on the Jurunas neighborhood in Belém, Pará—a territory shaped by historical processes of unequal urbanization—the event seeks to build a database of the community’s main demands and challenges based on residents’ input. This initiative would represent a first step in seeking strategies to mitigate the ongoing cycle of gentrification in the neighborhood, a process already identified in an initial survey conducted by the organizers.
