People with disabilities and cities - the sustainable lightness of leisure

The event aims to promote knowledge (the right to information and communication), and to discuss the access of children, young people, and adults with disabilities to leisure spaces in cities, such as parks, public squares, playgrounds and among others. The objective is to improve literacy and to inform the audience about human rights, particularly the right to leisure, in order to promote equity in cities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2011), there are 1 billion people with disabilities in the world, that is one out of seven people. And according to the last Demographic Census of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics/IBGE (2010), there are more than 45 million people with disability in Brazil, which corresponds to almost 25% of the population. These people need to be made visible and to be considered in the urban design, including leisure spaces. For full list of speakers check: www.circuitourbano.org
