A round table discussion on the concepts of walkability and walkable cities and their importance for creating fairer and more sustainable cities, and on the Walkable City Award 2023 initiative, which mapped and recognised projects carried out by public authorities in Brazilian cities with the aim of making them more walkable. The event will be attended by a spokesperson from each of the teams responsible for the three award-winning projects from Benevides, Pará; Jundiaí, São Paulo; and Fortaleza, Ceará. They will present the projects, commenting on how the walkability initiatives have positively impacted the cities, generating more social and gender equity, providing democratic and fair access to the city, its services and public spaces. After these presentations, we will make some comments about walkability and open a discussion on the topic among the guests.
