On 11 October 2026, HARMOS organized UniPark at Chojakubo Park, a neighbourhood park in Tokorozawa, Japan. UniPark uses existing neighbourhood parks as social assets rather than creating new facilities. It creates opportunities for people of different ages, abilities, nationalities and backgrounds to encounter one another naturally, contributing to neighbourhood environments where social isolation is less likely to occur. As Japan faces population ageing and decline, social isolation and weakened social connections are growing concerns. At the same time, maintaining urban parks presents challenges for municipalities. UniPark explores another role for these existing assets: not only as places for recreation and rest, but as social infrastructure that supports human connection. UniPark does not target or separate people by category. Instead, people share the same public space while choosing their own ways to participate. Around 30 people, aged from one to their 80s, joined activities including park cleaning, Mölkky, boccia, free play, food and conversation. The event was intentionally held alongside the major Tokorozawa Festival. By offering an alternative space near large crowds, UniPark welcomed people seeking quieter surroundings and enabled unexpected encounters among people who might otherwise never have met.
