Letras Rebeldes, a reading club from Ambato, Ecuador, invites the community to a Picnic Lectura on Friday, October 16 at 15:00 in Parque de las Flores, as part of Urban October 2026. This in-person gathering uses literature to reflect on the cities we live in: public space, belonging, and what it means to build inclusive, sustainable communities. This month’s club read is La familia de Pascual Duarte by Camilo José Cela, a novel about poverty, precarious living conditions, and the weight of environment on human lives. Participants will discuss how social and housing conditions shape people’s destinies, connecting the book to the right to adequate housing and dignified living spaces promoted by World Habitat Day. Attendees are invited to bring books to share or recommend, snacks, and fruit. It doesn’t matter what or how much you read: just bring your curiosity and love of reading. The activity is open to everyone and aims to strengthen community through shared stories.
