Housing on the Climate and Health Radar: Building an Interdisciplinary Territorial Observation Tool Since August 2026, PET-Saúde Clima, a joint UFRJ–Rio Municipal Health Secretariat programme, has brought together five tutorial groups working in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas and low-income neighborhoods, across eight disciplines: medicine, nursing, dentistry, nutrition, psychology, social work, social sciences/anthropology and occupational therapy. For Urban October 2026, these teams, together with community health workers and local associations, are developing a shared tool to examine how climate-related territorial conditions affect housing, habitability and health. The approach connects the home to its surrounding territory. It considers how flooding, environmental degradation, unequal infrastructure and disruptions to everyday urban life shape people's ability to inhabit their homes, maintain their health and recover after work. Drawing on home visits, students’ field diaries and the experiences of residents and healthcare professionals, the five groups are identifyng indicators across territorial surveillance, primary healthcare, specialized care and community communication. The objective is to translate existing knowledge into a common observation framework. The online event will present the tool’s initial construction and discuss its future application, showing how housing can become an operational dimension of climate-sensitive healthcare in underserved urban territories.
