Nature-based solutions (NbS) don’t fit neatly into one sector. They deliver co-benefits across climate, housing, economy, public health, environment and education – which is why there is no single blueprint for implementing them at the municipal level. Drawing on the C40 Cities Finance Facility’s ongoing partnership experiences, this panel compares how São Paulo and Belo Horizonte built distinct institutional pathways for NbS, starting from very different actors, entry points, political openings, and institutional arrangements. Speakers will share real stories from the ground, unpacking what actually drives implementation – stakeholder alignment, local dynamics, timing – and what other cities can learn from it.
