As an official international supporter of the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035), in celebration of World Cities Day 2026 and its theme 'Regenerating the City: Adequate Housing for All', we are launching the digital awareness campaign 'Seconds that Change' (#SecundeCareSchimba). The project highlights that 'adequate housing' must extend beyond apartment walls to ensure safe, resilient, and inclusive neighborhoods and cities. The campaign focuses on urban road safety and traffic prevention, advocating for human-centric street design, pedestrian visibility, and 30 km/h speed limits in residential areas. In addition, free sidewalks prevent vulnerable pedestrians—such as children, seniors, and parents with strollers—from being forced into dangerous roadways. Meanwhile, maximum attention in traffic and lower speed limits mitigate driver distractions in residential zones, protecting lives where people live. Through targeted social media posts and educational videos, we engage local citizens to identify where road infrastructure needs urgent regeneration to protect vulnerable road users. By emphasizing the critical role of driver reaction times and public awareness, 'Seconds that Change' aims to transform dangerous streets into safe community spaces, in alignment with the Vision Zero approach and the UN Decades of Action for Road Safety and Sustainable Transport.
