Cuauhtémoc Borough will present the restoration and recovery of Iztaccíhuatl Fountain, located on Ámsterdam Avenue in the Hipódromo neighborhood of Mexico City. The activity will introduce the project’s scope, conservation approach and expected contribution to everyday neighborhood life. The intervention will address the fountain, original period mosaics, adjoining architectural elements and plaster finishes, alongside improvements to lighting in circulation and sitting areas. Conservation will prioritize minimal intervention and compatible materials, preserving existing features wherever possible. A technical presentation and dialogue with residents will explain the planned works and provide an opportunity to discuss the space’s use and care. The project seeks to improve conservation, restore the fountain’s historical character and strengthen its role as a place for meeting, rest and social interaction. Scheduled to begin on 12 October 2026 and last approximately two months, the works will be presented as an ongoing process, rather than a completed restoration. Within Urban October, the activity will explore how heritage conservation and public-space recovery can improve the shared environment around homes and support neighborhood life.
