In celebration of World Habitat Day 2026, Sustainable Design 11 (Future Climate Heroes) and The Verdant Awards (Urban Canopy Cambodia) invite 10 selected youth participants to join a hands-on climate design workshop titled "Youth Roles for Redesigning the Urban Canopy in Phnom Penh City". Led by Mr. Somnob Buntorn with expert guidance from architectural engineer and urban planner Mr. Vathanak Soeun, this event addresses Phnom Penh's worsening Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect and severe lack of green canopy in unshaded public spaces. Taking place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 08:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Wat Phnom, participants will analyze Wat Phnom’s mature tree canopy as an ecological benchmark while assessing temperature contrasts against adjacent heat-exposed plazas. During the workshop, youth will undergo guided site analysis and participate in a live sketching session to visually co-design green canopy solutions. Supported by our sister initiative, The Verdant Botany, final visionary sketches will be showcased at the Global Urban Horizons Hub during the Youth Urban Dialogue for World Cities Day 2026, serving as a youth policy brief advocating for increased urban tree cover in Phnom Penh.
