Urban health challenges — from climate change and infectious disease risks to non-communicable diseases and health inequities — are complex, interconnected and shaped by social, environmental and political determinants. Addressing them requires more than isolated interventions. It calls for strategic approaches that connect scientific evidence with governance, implementation and action across sectors. Based on the WHO guide Taking a Strategic Approach to Urban Health, this webinar brings together research-based insights and practical experiences from national, regional and city-level approaches to urban health. Cases from the Philippines, Lahti, Finland and Cape Town, South Africa will show how integrated strategies can support healthier, more equitable and more sustainable urban environments. The online session on 28 Sept at 10:00–11:30 UTC (suitable for Africa, Europe, Asia) will be particularly relevant for researchers working at the intersections of health, urban planning, sustainability and governance. It will explore how evidence can inform comprehensive urban health strategies, what knowledge gaps remain, and how researchers can collaborate more effectively with public health professionals and city officials to support implementation. The webinar is organized by the Health and Urban Knowledge-Action Networks of Future Earth, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).
