World Habitat Day 2026, under the slogan promoted by the United Nations “Adequate Housing for All”, invites us to focus on the universal right to decent, stable and adequate housing as an essential condition for guaranteeing social inclusion, health and community cohesion. Within this framework, COHABITAC proposes a day to reflect on the most severe situations of residential exclusion and on the need to promote responses that put people’s needs at the centre. The day aims to highlight the social inclusion housing model, developed in Catalonia since 2007 under the impetus of the Housing Agency of Catalonia, as a social housing policy that has allowed people and families with difficulties in accessing and maintaining adequate housing over time to respond. It also aims to highlight the specialized support for people as a key factor in this model. The Social Inclusion Housing Network of Catalonia has consolidated a stock of 4,046 homes, of which Cohabitac manages more than 2,000. Despite this, demand continues to far exceed the available supply, and the viability of its management is not easy to sustain. This network will therefore need to be expanded and strengthened.
