The launch of the Canoas Resiliente e Sustentável [Canoas Resilient and Sustainable] initiative marks the beginning of a strategic multi-sector alliance bringing together public authorities, the productive sector, universities, civil society, and financial institutions around climate reconstruction and urban innovation. Selected to be part of UN-Habitat’s Urban Circuit 2025, the event positions Canoas as a national pilot for sustainable transformation, with the goal of becoming the first Brazilian city to achieve LEED for Cities certification.
The program includes an institutional opening and three thematic panels, addressing: cities as resilient ecosystems, pathways for the economy of tomorrow, and the convergence of governance and financing. The event will also feature the signing of memoranda of understanding with local universities, the reading of the Charter of Commitments, and the announcement of the Canoas Resilient Forum.
With a focus on innovation, competitiveness, and climate justice, the event aims to engage leaders and communities in building a replicable model for Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil, positioning the state as an international reference in sustainability and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
