Pink Ride: The City in the Rhythm of Children is an edition of the Roda Rosa [Pink Wheel] project, organized by the Institute of Ecosystemic Urbanism – LAURB, which promotes cultural bicycle rides with a gender perspective in Fortaleza, CE. In this eighth edition, the focus is on children and their caregivers, encouraging the use of bicycles as a sustainable, playful, and accessible mode of transportation from early childhood. The initiative is supported by the Early Childhood Coordination of the Fortaleza City Hall. The event offers a safe, educational, and fun experience for children and families, promoting the occupation of public spaces by historically vulnerable groups. Designed as an active mobility experience for children and their caregivers—mostly women—Rodinha Rosa [little pink wheel] combines movement and environmental awareness through activities that foster social interaction and reflection on urban life. Planned activities include beginner bicycle lessons, specially marked circuits for children, the creation of “affective maps,” and interactive activities that engage with care, nature, and the right to the city. Through this edition, LAURB seeks to strengthen cycling culture from early childhood and contribute to more inclusive, resilient cities that recognize the role of active mobility in mitigating climate change—positioning children as protagonists in shaping the city we want to build.
