The relation between themes from the perspective of reducing inequalities Environmental Justice in Cities addresses the need to ensure equity in access to environmental quality and climate resilience—elements that are often unevenly distributed across urban spaces. Vulnerable populations, such as low-income communities, Black people, Indigenous peoples, and those living in peripheral areas, tend to be more exposed to environmental risks (such as floods, heat islands, and pollution) while having less access to green infrastructure, basic sanitation, and quality public services. Facing urban challenges to build fair and sustainable cities calls for the development of strategies that promote social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and urban justice—that is, the formulation of public policies that take into account historical and structural inequalities within urban spaces.
