The webinar “Living Lab: Innovation in Residential Complexes Towards Circular Cities” will present strategies implemented in residential complexes to reduce waste sent to landfills and improve the value of generated materials, contributing to the development of more circular cities. The event will explore how challenges in waste valorization are being overcome, reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change in urban centers. The Living Lab initiatives are coordinated by the Cluster ECOAR research team and funded by the Rio Grande do Sul Research Support Foundation (FAPERGS), through a pioneering study focused on implementing circular practices in residential complexes. The activities are being developed in collaboration with the Vila Pinto Waste Pickers Cooperative and tested in the Bom Jesus neighborhood, Porto Alegre. The event will bring together researchers, condominium managers, representatives from waste picker cooperatives, a member of the TRUE Advisory Council of the U.S. Green Building Council, and a representative from the Architecture and Urbanism Council (CAU) to discuss pathways toward sustainable cities from multiple perspectives. Presentations will showcase strategies for waste valorization in residential complexes, creating value across the entire supply chain. The event aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
