The event “ATHIS in Focus: Social Participation, Gender, and Education” aims to discuss, under Axis 2 – Adequate Housing at the Center of Urban Planning, how Technical Assistance in Social Housing (ATHIS) has been approached in different contexts and by diverse actors. Activities developed by the [MORA] research group (UFU) will be presented, showcasing studies and practices that contribute to the implementation of ATHIS, strengthening the link between university and community. From the perspective of ATHIS X social participation, the discussion will explore how collaborative methodologies, built through dialogue with residents and institutions, can enhance the outcomes of technical assistance and foster greater community belonging. Additionally, the role of the MTST in engaging with communities and identifying their needs will be examined. Regarding ATHIS X gender, the event will address how housing improvements can be driven by initiatives led by vulnerable women, based on experiences in Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing complexes, highlighting both the lack of technical assistance and the everyday resilience of women facing inadequate housing conditions. The event will also discuss the importance of education and training in ATHIS, emphasizing the role of Academic Residencies in Architecture and Urbanism as tools to engage with popular territories, under the perspective of ATHIS and education.
