This event reflects on the city as a space of contestation, historically shaped by processes of segregation, expropriation, and the selective valorization of territories. Its focus is to discuss urban inequality not as an exception, but as a structural element of the capitalist production of urban space, highlighting its connections with climate justice and the disproportionate environmental impacts borne by peripheral bodies and territories. The two-hour session, broadcast live on the Circuito Urbano YouTube channel, will bring together researchers and urban practitioners engaged in teaching, research, and fieldwork, along with a representative from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Minas Gerais, who has been involved in urban issues in Montes Claros (MG). Drawing on the concrete experience of this mid-sized city in northern Minas Gerais, the discussion brings citizenship as a political practice to the forefront and points to Southern epistemologies and perspectives from the margins as pathways to rethink the city and open new horizons for a more just and plural urbanism.
