The theme of this event centers on the preservation of homes built in the early 20th century in the community of Portugal Pequeno, located in the Ponta da Areia neighborhood of Niterói. Despite all the challenges brought by the decline of the shipbuilding industry, these homes endure—reaffirming the right to housing. The focus will be on presenting the neighborhood’s history, highlighting its local identity and collective memory. The event will take the form of a memory circuit, following an itinerary through the area’s Portuguese-style dwellings (tenements and houses) and other elements that shape its urban fabric. The approach includes an on-site oral presentation about the neighborhood’s history and its housing, followed by the participatory memory circuit involving registered participants. The central connection lies in the choice of housing as the main character in the local story and as a symbol of resistance.
