From October 13 to 17, 2025, Recife will host the Recife Exchanges Netherlands – RxN event.
The RxN Workshop is a platform for dialogue between nations and represents a methodological leap forward—marking a new stage and a continuation of the cooperation between Brazil and the Netherlands on climate adaptation, sea level rise, and the protection of built heritage.
The main focus will be the exchange of experiences and strategies between the two cities to address the challenges of climate change, particularly sea level rise.
The event will bring together experts in architecture, urbanism, territorial planning, heritage conservation, and oceanography to discuss innovative solutions for the adaptation and protection of coastal urban areas. Protection and adaptation scenarios will be addressed with special consideration of Recife’s unique characteristics—a city historically defined by its relationship with water and its urban legacy from the Dutch period in the 17th century.
In addition to lectures and workshops, technical visits and collaborative activities are planned to support the development of concrete proposals for urban resilience in the face of climate change.
The event is a joint initiative of Brazilian and Dutch institutions, strengthening historical ties and fostering the exchange of knowledge between the two countries.
