For a Fairer and More Sustainable City: The Case of Passo dos Negros
The meeting on urban land conflicts and the defense of traditional communities seeks to discuss how the right to the city and to dignified housing for traditional groups in Pelotas, RS, has been threatened by recent dynamics of real estate speculation and by the invisibilization or even criminalization of these communities.
Organized by the Medium-Sized Cities Research Group of the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at UFPel, the event brings to the forefront the voices of leaders from the Kilombo Urbano [Urban Quilombo]– Canto de Conexão Occupation, located in downtown Pelotas, and from the NGO Cuidando de Nós, formed by residents and collaborators of the Passo dos Negros community. The discussion also aims to outline strategies to promote and protect the right of these communities to remain in their territories.
