The proximity of COP30 in Belém represents a strategic opportunity to connect international climate debates with the realities of urban life in the Amazon. This event proposes an innovative dynamic inspired by the “Roda Viva” [Live Wheel] format. (This format is ispired by a TV show in which guests sit on a swivel chair in the middle of a circle of journalists, who are in a higher position. The interviewed person turns to answer the journalist asking the question.) For this event journalists, digital communicators, civil society representatives, and Amazonian youth take on the role of interviewers—posing direct and provocative questions to national and international experts. The goal is to reverse the traditional dynamic: rather than a closed technical dialogue, civil society takes center stage, challenging experts to translate global concepts into accessible language and into solutions that resonate with people’s daily lives. The program includes an institutional opening, two short talk shows on climate adaptation and international negotiations, followed by a two-hour Roda Viva, during which local and national actors engage with the guests in fast-paced, interactive rounds of questions. The event concludes with final remarks from the experts and a synthesis session. Through this interactive format, the event seeks to bring together civil society, academia, public institutions, and the private sector, valuing local knowledge and expanding collaboration networks in the lead-up to COP30. The initiative reinforces the Amazon as the center of climate discussions and contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate justice, housing, and the reduction of inequalities.
