The event fosters dialogue between technical knowledge, community action, and public management, bringing together representatives from UN-Habitat, the Institute for Urban and Environmental Research, Planning, and Licensing of Maceió (IPLAM), as well as academic professors engaged in discussing sustainability initiatives applied to the city. The goal is to reflect on sustainable practices and collaborative solutions in the local urban context, involving the fields of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The event emphasizes the importance of active listening and collective construction in transforming cities, as well as how social technologies, community mapping, and evidence-based public policies contribute to more inclusive and resilient urban environments. The symposium will feature architect Paula Zacarias, a UN-Habitat representative in Maceió, speaking on UN-Habitat’s initiatives for sustainability in Alagoas; Engineer Roberto Monteiro, representing IPLAM’s environmental oversight body, discussing Law 15.190/2025 and the Legal Framework for Environmental Licensing in Brazil. Following the thematic presentations, there will be a discussion circle with professors from UNINASSAU/Maceió, Dr. Engineer Juliana Martins and M.Sc. Architect Nayane Laurentino, concluding the evening with acknowledgments and an invitation to the next event on October 22, 2025, which will feature companies practicing sustainability in architecture and engineering.
