Curitiba is preparing for a shift in the energy matrix of its public transportation system with the upcoming renewal of its operating concession. E-mobility has emerged as the most advanced proposal for decarbonizing the city’s bus fleet. The municipality has secured over US$ 180 million in multilateral financing to upgrade the routes of two of its busiest bus lines, enabling electric buses to operate more efficiently. This decarbonization effort is aligned with the city’s Climate Action Plan, approved in 2020, which aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 2050.
