The event Climate Disasters and Urban Justice in the Northeastern Semi-Arid Region will bring together researchers from the CESU Teresina and RUA – Urban Resilience in Action groups to discuss the impacts of climate change in urban contexts marked by inequalities.
Focusing on Brazil’s Northeast—where rising temperatures, extreme rainfall, and environmental racism are particularly severe—the meeting will address strategies for climate adaptation, access to adequate housing, socio-environmental justice, and the strengthening of community resilience.
Held in a online panel format, the event will feature opening presentations and a roundtable discussion among panelists from different disciplines and territories, connecting experiences in research, outreach, and direct action. The initiative aims to widen and highlight practices that integrate urban planning, climate data, social participation, and human rights, contributing to the development of public policies sensitive to the specific realities of the urban semi-arid region, and emphasizing the power of local territories and knowledge in confronting the climate crisis.
