Since 2021, the Cânions Paulistas Association has been working for the preservation, restoration, and modernization of the most significant cultural heritage site in the municipality of Itararé, São Paulo. The railway complex comprises warehouses, a workshop, residences, a rail yard, and the train station designed by the Ramos de Azevedo office in the early 20th century. Over the past few years, several heritage awareness and education activities have been carried out, including the publication of a book, a documentary, lectures, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
In 2025, a group of associated and allied architect-urbanists developed a proposal that includes actions to improve urban connectivity, accessibility, landscaping, restoration, and interior design, as well as the setup and museography of the historic buildings. This project was coordinated by Carolina Klocker and authored by Alexandre Monteiro Silva, Letícia Loriaga, Maria Clara Holtz, and Pamella Bandini.
Now the main goal of Cânions Paulistas is to make possible the development of the project and the implementation of the necessary works so that the Itararé railway complex becomes one of the leading tourist attractions in the southwest region of São Paulo, bringing together cultural, environmental, educational, and leisure activities open to the local population and its visitors throughout the year.
