Our event will focus on community mobilization to fight food insecurity, understood as a direct expression of urban inequality in João Pessoa. With a format that combines practical action and reflection, the approach will be hands-on and participatory, taking place at a strategic spot in the Torre neighborhood, near the “La Torre” Market, an area with three supermarkets. This choice is meant to boost donations and encourage partnerships, aiming not only to collect food but also to raise awareness about each citizen’s role in building a more equitable city. The program will include debates on access to the city, followed by the food collection drive, a presentation of the initiative’s impact, and a cultural activity to celebrate community unity.
This project is directly aligned with the overarching theme of Urban Circuit 2025, as it proposes a concrete, local action to address one of the most urgent challenges: hunger. By linking food collection to dialogue and data presentation, the initiative fosters the construction of a fairer and more sustainable city through civic action. Its connection with the thematic line of “reducing urban inequalities” is the backbone of the project, since unequal access to food is one of the harshest dimensions of socio-spatial segregation.
The action transforms a space of consumption into a hub of solidarity, making food insecurity visible and engaging the population in the search for solutions that promote equity and dignity for all urban residents.
