Municipal Management of Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) in the Face of Climate Change in Rio Grande do Sul

In light of the intensification of extreme climate events and their effects on food systems, this event focuses on presenting and discussing the objectives and partial results of the research project “State Capacities for Food and Nutrition Security Resilience to Climate Change: Case Studies in Municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul” (FAPERGS Call 2024). The study investigates how municipal governments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul have been working to build public policies that connect food security and climate change, with emphasis on the 13 municipalities that will be part of the Alimenta Cidades-RS Strategy, an initiative of the Ministry of Social Development, Family, and the Fight Against Hunger (MDS) in response to the recent climate tragedy. The program will be structured as a panel, inaugurated and moderated by Beatriz Ribeiro Rocha, followed by a presentation of the project and preliminary results by the researchers involved. The session will also include a moment of debate and interaction with the audience, closing with final reflections. The event seeks to promote a meaningful dialogue on local institutional capacities, the challenges faced, and the possibilities for strengthening public policies that integrate food security with responses to climate change.
