The event “Local Solutions for Fair, Resilient, and Inclusive Cities” addresses climate change adaptation, focusing on solutions developed in slums and urban communities in defense of the right to decent housing and cities in times of climate crisis. The event brings together public managers from the Secretariat for Peripheries with partners from civil society and international cooperation who are involved in the Informality Taskforce and who operate in Brazil. The approach is centered on community experience and leadership, valuing local practices such as participatory planning processes, collective efforts, and local, low-cost solutions that contribute to residents' quality of life and housing and increase the resilience of territories in the face of climate impacts. The proposal is connected to the thematic line “Climate action and the urban environment,” showing how vulnerable communities create urban resilience strategies, and to the line “Adequate housing at the center of urban planning,” strengthening the integration between housing and environmental agendas for climate and urban justice, in dialogue with the COP30 agenda. The event contributes to the 2025 Urban Circuit “Facing urban challenges: paths to fair and sustainable cities” by demonstrating inclusive and replicable solutions in the peripheries, with the aim of sharing replicable knowledge and influencing public policy.
