Youth homelessness is a global challenge, with recent statistics suggesting that it is on the rise - in some countries by more than 20%. Homelessness affects young people of all communities in every region of the world - developed and developing. Amidst a global pandemic, and in the face of challenges like climate change, migration and displacement, and rampant inequalities, youth global homelessness is expected to grow. To achieve the 2030 Agenda and ensure that no one is left behind, we must work together to address youth global homelessness.
Supporting this year’s launch of the Decade of Action for Delivery of the SDGs, amidst Urban October, hear the Institute of Global Homelessness’ Partnerships Consultant, and former UN Intern, Kaira Shetty in conversation with Lydia Stazen, Director, Institute of Global Homelessness; Chris Williams, Director, New York Office, UN-Habitat ; Gregory Lewis, CEO, True Colors United; Oprah Cundangan, Community Animator, A Way Home; Jax Ewin, Hobart City Tasmania Councillor and Activist and Ayisha Aminu, Youth Homelessness Activist, Street Children Project. This panel promises to be both engaging and dynamic, where participants from inside and outside the UN ecosystem will draw on their vast experiences and expertise to talk all things solving youth global homelessness - from multilateral partnership, policy, grassroots and youth activism, lived experience and of course, the SDGs. Join the conversation to learn how you can contribute to solving homelessness, and ultimately and ensure a future that leaves no one behind.
This session promises to be informative and interactive, enabling the audience to glean a greater understanding of the role they can play within their respective sector of society to solve youth global homelessness and in turn, realise the 2030 Agenda. It hopes to be a motivational moment during Urban October, and more broadly the Decade of Action, where youth, BIPOC and LGBTQIAP+ voices can be elevated and heard, and commitment can be catalyzed.
