Knowledge from the Backyard: Agroecology and Sustainability Workshops

The event “Knowledge from the Backyard: Agroecology and Sustainability Workshops for Autonomy and Sustainability” proposes a series of in-person workshops primarily aimed at homemakers interested in incorporating sustainable practices into their daily lives. The workshops will cover topics such as home composting, small-scale gardening, and the production of natural pesticides, focusing on valuing traditional knowledge and promoting food and environmental autonomy. Each workshop will be divided into two complementary parts: a theoretical session, introducing basic concepts of agroecology, urban sustainability, and food security; and a practical session, dedicated to applying these techniques directly in small domestic spaces such as backyards, balconies, and shared areas. The event will take place in person, encouraging experience-sharing among participants. All content will be recorded and later published on the event’s official page, broadening access to the information and allowing other communities to benefit from the initiative. The approach will be educational, accessible, and practice-oriented, fostering women’s leadership in building simple and effective solutions to urban environmental challenges. This activity is directly aligned with the theme of Urban Circuit 2025 and the thematic line “Climate Action and Urban Environment”, as well as SDGs 11 and 2, by promoting low-impact environmental practices, organic waste reuse, healthy food production, and the strengthening of urban resilience. The proposal contributes to building more sustainable and inclusive cities—starting with each person's home.
