The Institute for Research and Planning of Fortaleza (IPPLAN Fortaleza), in partnership with other municipal government agencies, is organizing the 4th Outubro Urbano [Urban October Fortaleza] — a series of events dedicated to building fairer and more sustainable cities, aligned with UN-Habitat’s Urban October and Urban Circuit campaigns.
This event proposes a reflection on the concrete impacts of previous editions of the World Urban Forum (WUF) on urban policies and international cooperation processes, highlighting Brazil’s role as a key actor in this context. It will also be an opportunity to debate strategies for linking the WUF with COP30, showing how urban and climate agendas can complement and amplify each other’s results through the leadership of cities.
The discussions will address potential strategies to expand the impact of WUFs and their alignment with UN-Habitat’s strategic planning, promoting access to rights, reducing socio-spatial segregation, and strengthening urban solutions sensitive to multiple dimensions of inequality — social, environmental, and territorial.
The event is aligned with the thematic axis “Reduction of Urban Inequalities” and with the theme of World Habitat Day 2025 — “Responding to Urban Crises”, recognizing the importance of collective action in contexts marked by climate change, conflicts, and growing vulnerabilities.
